Civic Scholars Program
Leadership isn't just learned in the classroom — it's built through experiences that make a difference.
The Tri-C Civic Scholars program recognizes students who demonstrate leadership, service and civic engagement through experiences both on and off campus. Whether you're volunteering in the community, participating in leadership programs, completing an internship or gaining hands-on learning experience, the Civic Scholars program helps you turn those experiences into recognized achievements that support your academic and career goals.
How the Tri-C Civic Scholars Program Works
- Complete a leadership, service or experiential learning opportunity
- Submit verification for your participation, or have a faculty member or employer submit it
- Earn distinctions and recognition based on the points awarded for each experience
You May Qualify If You:
- Are a current Tri-C student in good academic standing
- Have completed or are completing leadership, service or experiential learning opportunities
- Want to grow professionally while making a difference in your community
Overall Program Requirements
To be recognized as a Tri-C Civic Scholar, you should:
- Meet all eligibility requirements
- Complete experiences in one or more of the categories
- Earn a minimum of 50 Civic Scholar Points
- Complete the Civic Scholar submission form to document your activity over one academic year (Summer 2026, Fall 2026 and/or Spring 2027)
- Receive verification from a faculty or staff member or community partner of your completion of an experiential learning opportunity

- Recognition at campus award ceremonies or receptions
- Recognition at Commencement

Qualification Categories and Points
Verification Requirements
Each experience must include verification from a faculty or staff member or community partner confirming completion of the activity and attainment of an Essential Learning Outcome (ELO), a National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) competency or both (see below):
- Acquire transferable leadership skills valued by employers
- Gain experience working in team‑based, real‑world environments
- Communicate ideas clearly, effectively and respectfully
- Apply civic and/or cultural literacy skills to consider various perspectives and engage thoughtfully with issues impacting communities
- Analyze ideas, evidence and observations to develop thoughtful and/or creative approaches to complex issues
- Gain exposure to public, nonprofit and community‑focused pathways
- Gain a stronger understanding of workplace ethics and civic responsibility
- Gain exposure to valuable, career-related technology
