Student Leadership Certificate Program

Tri-C Student Leadership

This program gives you the opportunity to further develop your leadership skills outside the classroom and supports self-exploration and discovery through experiences.

You can earn three successive, noncredit leadership certificates in:

  • Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI)
  • Personal Development
  • Civic Responsibility

For each track, you must update your resume with Career Services, perform an act of community service, write a reflection on your experience, and make a presentation.

  • Attend a Diversity event
    • Attend an event tagged as "SLCP: Diversity & Inclusion", either in-person or virtually, and upload proof of attendance.
  • Research diversity councils and employee resource groups (ERGs)
    • Discover Tri-C's diversity groups (Black American Council, Hispanic Council, SOGE, Student Accessibility Services and Veterans & Military Connected Services), then write a reflection.
  • Complete a diversity training
    • Complete an in-person or virtual Diversity Training and upload proof of attendance.
  • Write a 500-word reflection on what DEI means to you and the importance of diversity in communities
  • Watch a DEI-approved movie or listen to a podcast
    • Please contact your campus Student Life Advisor if you would like to use a movie or podcast not on the approved list.

  • Interview a student leader
    • Contact a member of Student Government, a Board Student Scholar, a Student Club Officer, or a Mandel Scholar. Then complete the interview form provided.
  • Meet with a Student Success Specialist to discuss personal development or watch videos on LINGO
    • Meet with your campus Student Success Specialist or watch a LINGO video, then complete the form provided.
  • Attend the Student Leadership Retreat or a personal development event
    • The Student Leadership Retreat is offered to all students Collegewide and may be attended in-person.  You may also attend a personal development event of your choice either in-person or virtually. Then upload proof of attendance.
  • Read a selection from the book list or watch an approved TED Talk, and complete the form provided
    • Please contact your campus Student Life Advisor if you would like to use a book or TED Talk not on the approved list.

  • Attend a Student Government meeting or event
    • Join Student Government for an open meeting, or attend a Student Government-hosted event. Then upload proof of attendance.
  • Discover Tri-C's Democracy Fellows
    • Attend an event hosted by Democracy Fellows. If you are unable to attend an event, research the group and why they are important.
  • Attend a community event
    • Attend an event in your local community. Submit documentation of attendance, along with a 250-word reflection about your experience and the importance of the event.
  • Write a 500-word reflection on the importance of voting in local, state and federal elections
    • Research the importance of voting and discuss one local, state, or federal issue that is important to you in a 500-word reflection.
  • Research and write about a community organization
    • Research an organization in your local community and write a 250-word reflection about the importance of the organization to the community.
