Colloquium - Call for Proposals

The theme for the Spring 2027 Colloquium is The Wisdom in the Room: Connecting Experience and Expertise to Education. The Colloquium committee is seeking proposals that demonstrate ways to apply theories, skills, and practices from your academic expertise or non-academic experiences to teaching and learning.

The goal of the Spring 2027 Colloquium is to offer presenters an opportunity to share ways in which their academic training or personal interests inform and enhance their teaching.

We have restructured the schedule and presentation format for the Spring 2027 Colloquium. We will have two presentation durations available:  

• 30 minutes (total time)
  Smaller topics, works in progress, or great ideas for teaching students (GIFTS) 

• 60 minutes (total time)
  Robust, in-depth topics, paper- or panel-length talks, or a full workshop 

As you complete the CFP form, you’ll be asked to select only one presentation duration. Remember to consider leaving time for Q&A when deciding which duration you should select.

In this CFP, in addition to basic contact information for you and any co-presenters, we'll ask you to include the following:  

• Presentation description for the program (up to 100 words)
• What expertise or experience do you plan to highlight in your presentation?
• What specific theory, skill, or practice will you translate into pedagogical application?
• How can that specific theory, skill, or practice be used to improve or enhance teaching and learning?
• Please include any additional details that may help the committee better understand your proposal (optional, up to 250 words)

Your responses should be precise and specific.

Please note what these examples accomplish. They each: select one of the two durations, provide a working title, list the presenters involved, clearly address the questions asked above, and provide a clear description of the presentation. This information will be asked for on the CFP form, and the form must be completed in full to consider your presentation for colloquium.

Proposals will undergo a blind review by the Colloquium Committee using a standard rubric. Reviewers will use the rubric as a guide but will take a holistic approach when evaluating proposals. While individual components may be rated, final selection decisions will consider the overall quality of submissions and the full pool of proposals, rather than relying solely on rubric scores.
