Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Stations

Electric Vehicle (EV) charging is now available to the public at the Eastern, Metropolitan and Western campuses. One station with two plugs has been installed at each of these campuses, and two vehicles can be charged at a time in adjacent spaces.

The installation of these stations was funded by the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency (NOACA) through federal funding. During Phase I of this program, NOACA invested $3.5 million for EV charging stations in 40 locations across five counties — Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain and Medina. The upcoming Phase II of NOACA's program will involve $15 million for an additional 80 locations, making EV charging more accessible across the region.

EV Charging Station Details:

  • The cost of charging at Tri-C is $0.24 per kWh to cover Tri-C's costs for electricity, maintenance and equipment warranties.
  • The total cost of charging a vehicle will vary depending on the vehicle's battery capacity and how much charge the battery has at the start of the charging session.
  • The chargers at Tri-C are all Level 2 chargers (not Level 3 fast chargers) — meaning most vehicles will receive a charge of about 5-6 kWh per hour, which will cost about $1.25-$1.50 per hour of active charging. Please note that the amount of electricity a vehicle can receive to charge varies by vehicle, and the cost of charging will vary by vehicle and the length of the charging session.
  • Users must have an account to charge an EV at a station at Tri-C set up with Flo or another EV charging station network, such as ChargePoint. These accounts require a credit card for payment.
  • The price/cost structure for charging may be adjusted in the future if necessary. For example, if vehicles are left plugged into chargers after charging has been completed, making the charger unavailable to someone else, Tri-C may adjust its pricing to include an hourly charge for a vehicle left in the spot after a certain amount of time, such as four hours.
  • For questions or comments about EV charging at Tri-C, please email david.november@tri-c.edu

EV Charging Station Locations:

  • Eastern: Parking Lot R1, near the EHCT building, close to the southwest corner of the parking lot
  • Metro: Parking Lot 6, under MLA, near the MLA east stairway from the parking lot
  • Western*: Parking Lot B in the island dividing the driving lane closest to the fountain from the second, close to the ADA spots. *Note: Although this location falls within parking labeled as "Faculty and Staff Only," it is open to anyone.
