Early College Opportunities

Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) offers free or low-cost programs that allow high school students to explore college and career pathways, earn college credit, credentials and certifications, and receive workforce training.

Mission and Who We Are

Improve the College's wrap around serving youth throughout Northeast Ohio by providing systemic coordination of all early college, dual enrollment, career, and technical education; where possible, leverage resources and increase collaboration and partnership with K-12 schools, consortiums, and community-based organizations to maximize students' college access, career, and workforce readiness.

Career Exploration Programs

These programs provide hands-on experiences that connect your interests with in-demand, thriving-wage careers right here in Northeast Ohio.

College Credit Plus

CCP logoCollege Credit Plus (CCP) allows eligible students in grades seven through 12 to earn free college credit while completing high school. You can take courses at a Tri-C campus, online or at your high school (if offered in your district).

CCP can significantly reduce the cost of a college degree, with some students earning an associate degree, certificate or credential by the time they finish high school. Most credits earned through CCP will transfer to any Ohio public college or university.

The First Jennings Scholars program helps Tri-C’s first-generation CCP students thrive, from taking their first college course to completing their degree.

As a First Jennings Scholar, you’ll be part of a supportive community that understands your journey and celebrates your goals. Each campus has a dedicated Scholars Space — your home base to study and connect.

Attend classes on campus, online or at a high school and receive academic support and mentoring to keep you on track.

High Tech Academy (HTA) empowers you to begin your college journey early while preparing for in-demand, thriving-wage technical careers and long-term degree completion.

High Tech Academy helps you develop strong computer and IT skills, advanced critical‑thinking abilities and other qualifications employers look for. You also get meaningful exposure to college life through classes, extracurricular engagement and cultural activities.

You will spend mornings at your high school and afternoons taking college courses at Tri-C’s Metropolitan Campus, earning college credit as you work toward your high school diploma. Transportation is provided by the Cleveland Metropolitan School District.

High Tech Academy offers year-round enrollment.

You will be prepared to enter the workforce, complete a Tri-C associate degree or transfer to a four-year college.

Youth Technology Academy (YTA) prepares you for STEM and technical workforce careers through hands-on learning. You can design and build robots, learn programming and drone coding and take part in exciting classes. You can also earn college credit through CCP or other grant funding.

Career and Technical Education

Career and Technical Education (CTE) helps you explore technical careers, earn college credit and gain hands-on experience that prepares you for success after high school. Through partnerships among your school district, Tri-C and local industry leaders, CTE gives you the opportunity to start building your future as early as middle school.

CTE offers pre-apprenticeships, apprenticeships and the chance to explore other paths to technical jobs.

Students usually join CTE through their school district, though homeschool and private school students may also qualify.

Eligible students may receive financial assistance, and CTE scholarships are available for graduating high school seniors continuing at Tri-C.

TRIO Programs

TRIO logoThe goal of federal TRIO programs is to assist low-income and first generation youth and adults to enroll in and complete a post-secondary program.

TRIO Educational Talent Search (ETS) is a federally funded program that helps students from disadvantaged backgrounds reach their full potential. The program helps these students complete high school and pursue college or high-quality career training.

Established in 1968, Tri-C’s ETS program is one of the nation’s oldest and most successful. It serves students in grades six through 12 at select CMSD schools.

Participants receive free academic, financial, career and personal counseling, tutoring, career exploration services, college visits and preparation for college entrance exams.

TRIO Upward Bound is a year-round program that helps you get ready for college and succeed once you’re there! Designed for students at Maple Heights and select CMSD high schools, TRIO Upward Bound gives you the tools, support and experiences to graduate from high school and confidently step into college life.

Through partnerships with your school, Tri-C and the community, you’ll explore your interests, strengthen your academic skills and discover new opportunities for your future. Upward Bound is your pathway to college success!

TRIO Upward Bound Math and Science (UBMS) helps you discover your potential to shine in math, science and STEM! This federally funded, after-school, pre-college program gives you hands-on experiences that build your skills and confidence for college and future STEM careers.

You’ll take part in summer programs with intensive math and science training, conduct your own research projects with guidance from college faculty and graduate mentors, and explore exciting educational and career opportunities in STEM fields.

UBMS is your launchpad to innovation, discovery and success in science and technology!
