About Career and Technical Education

The Ohio Career and Technical Education (CTE) concept is a seamless, non-duplicative, integrated pathway of education and experience that starts in high school, continues through postsecondary, and leads to success in the chosen technical career field. The curriculum reflects real-world technical careers in high demand today and prepares students to be college and career ready. The Tri-C CTE program connects high school and college education to high-skill and high-demand technical employment. Students are enrolled in the CTE program through their high school district.

A CTE student is a student who is enrolled in or has completed a prescribed CTE program of study for grades 9-12. These programs have been identified and approved by high school and college administrators and business and industry representatives as providing academic and technical competencies developed through a Career Field Technical Content Standards review process. This process ensures a seamless learning progression of technical and academic skills from high school through college.

Please Note: To receive CTE credit, a student must:

  • Apply to Tri-C
  • Complete an approved CTE program with at least a 2.75 GPA
  • Earn a 2.0 cumulative GPA in grades 9-12
  • Graduate high school
  • Submit an articulation agreement and an official high school transcript to the College and Career Readiness office.
