OLAT Academic Technology Updates

We are moving to D2L's Accessibility+ from Anthology's Ally.

Accessibility+ is a content audit and remediation solution. It combines AI automation and expert human oversight to streamline compliance, reduce manual work and deliver accessible content when it matters most.

We are planning to launch Accessibility+ by the end of December 2025.

Here are a few key features of Accessibility+:

• Integrates within Brightspace for a seamless experience  

• Generates alternative file formats for students  

• Provides clear dashboards and accessibility reports  

• Saves time by automating common accessibility fixes and improving course content accessibility 

• Replaces Anthology Ally. (Training resources will be available in December 2025) 

We are moving to Panopto from Mediasite. This will be implemented in phases to ensure a smooth transition of content from Mediasite to Panopto.

Panopto is a lecture capture video platform that allows for simultaneous capture of audio, video and software applications (e.g., Microsoft PowerPoint) that you can then edit and share. Panopto includes interactive video features like notes, bookmarks and quizzes, with video captioning. Panopto is a great solution to providing distance learning, flipped learning, aiding knowledge recall and offering students additional accessibility and learning options. It can be used by faculty, staff and students to record and view video recordings. These recordings can then be shared and viewed in Brightspace, directly in Panopto or via the Panopto mobile app.

We plan to be fully implemented with Panopto by the end of May 2026.

• Simplifies video recording, storage and sharing 

• Offers built-in captioning and searchable transcripts  

• Integrates with Brightspace for easy access to course videos  

• Includes flexible tools for lecture capture, feedback and engagement  

• Delivers enhanced performance and reliability for streaming  

• Replaces Mediasite (faculty may continue using Mediasite for now; no action required at this time). Stay tuned for more information.

Creator+ is an advanced content creation tool for Brightspace that allows educators to build professional, interactive and accessible online course content without needing to learn how to code.

We plan to launch Creator+ by the end of July 2026.

Here are a few key features of Creator+: 

• Enables creation of interactive multimedia content directly in Brightspace  

• Uses AI-assisted templates to streamline course design  

• Incorporates built-in accessibility checks and design using best practices  

• Provides easy drag-and-drop tools for images, videos and quizzes  

• Reduces the need for multiple third-party tools  

• Training begins in Spring 2026, with a full launch by July 1, 2026

Please Note: With D2L’s Creator+ providing similar functionality to SoftChalk, we will phase out SoftChalk as we adopt Creator+, supporting our College commitment to fiscal responsibility. Faculty currently using SoftChalk will receive guidance on the next steps.
