Panopto

What Is Panopto?

Green Panopto iconPanopto is Tri-C’s lecture capture video platform that is used to record, store and manage your videos used for classes and your departments. Videos can be used for lectures, presentations, demonstrations, instructional, and training videos. These videos can be viewed on demand inside Brightspace, if someone has shared a link with you, or on a webpage. Panopto videos are designed to be engaging, meet accessibility standards, and allow students to watch at their own pace.

When Will I Be Able To Access Panopto?

Access to Panopto will begin March 16, 2026.

What do I need to do to migrate my Mediasite content to Panopto?

No action is required on your part to migrate content from Mediasite to Panopto. Existing Mediasite content will be automatically migrated to Panopto in two batches:

  • Content created before December 5, 2025, will be available March 16
  • Content created December 5, 2025 – May 12, 2026, will be available mid-May

What about my Mediasite links?

Mediasite links within Brightspace will be updated automatically in two batches:

  • Summer 2026 and Fall 2025 courses as well as all course sites and sandboxes created in prior terms will be updated during Spring Break 2026 (March 9 - 15)
  • Spring 2026 courses will be updated the week before the Summer 2026 term (May 18-24)

Mediasite links within WeVideo activities will also be updated automatically; details forthcoming.

Mediasite links in other locations (KWeb, Tri-C websites) will need to be manually updated; details forthcoming.

To get started with Panopto basics, visit our Just-in-Time Panopto Resources site.

Training opportunities for faculty and staff will begin in March 2026.

  • Live in-person and virtual trainings: search OLATFF1030 in Compass
  • A self-paced, On-Demand course in Brightspace (coming March 2026)

Is Mediasite going away?

Mediasite will be phased out beginning in Spring 2026. Starting in Summer 2026, all lecture capture activities will take place via Panopto. Mediasite access will be removed on May 12 and Mediasite links will no longer work beginning June 20, 2026.

When will I have access to Panopto?

Access to Panopto will begin March 16, 2026.

What is lecture capture?

Lecture capture is the practice of recording class sessions or instructional content so students can access them on demand. It provides a reliable learning anchor, allowing students to revisit complex material, reinforce understanding, and stay connected if they miss class due to illness, work, or live responsibilities. Lecture capture extends learning beyond the classroom and supports varied learning paces and styles. It promotes equity and accessibility by offering captions, playback controls, and the ability to review content multiple times. This also empowers students to take ownership of their own learning and can enhance learning.

How should I prepare my Brightspace courses for this transition?

At this point, the best thing to do is to make sure you have an understanding of where in your course you might be using Mediasite. Consider lecture recordings, PowerPoints with accompanying video, quizzes, WeVideo integrations and any other ways you make use of Mediasite. Also keep track of any major edits to your Mediasite videos, as some of those edits may not migrate to Panopto.

I will be teaching in Spring or Summer 2026. Should I get rid of my Mediasite links now?

Those teaching in Spring 2026 (including the second 8-week term) should continue to use Mediasite as planned. However, Mediasite will not be available for any courses after Spring 2026. Instructors teaching in Summer 2026 and beyond should familiarize themselves with Panopto beginning on March 16. Training will be available after Spring Break of 2026.

All Spring and Summer 2026 course incompletes requiring student videos must use Panopto.

I use WeVideo for my video quizzes. What do I need to know?

You will have access to Panopto videos in WeVideo beginning March 16, 2026. Your existing Mediasite video links in WeVideo will begin to be remapped to Panopto the week of May 18, 2026.

Will Panopto include all of my Mediasite features?

Panopto will bring over all video content and captions on videos. However, Mediasite quizzes will need to be recreated in Panopto and relinked in Brightspace, and any custom thumbnails will need to be added again or recreated. Additionally, Panopto does not support linking to external videos. If you have any questions about a specific feature, please reach out to olat@tri-c.edu.

I edited a Mediasite video for this semester. Will those changes come over to Panopto?

Any changes made to Mediasite videos after Dec. 5, 2025 may not be reflected in Panopto due to the migration process timeline. Consider keeping a note of any major edits to your videos so you can double-check if the edited versions were migrated over to Panopto.
