Faculty Development Project Fund

To engage and inspire more faculty in professional development events, such as the facilitation of Faculty Learning Communities, we’re excited to offer the opportunity for full-time faculty to apply for ESUs to offset the time commitment in running such a detailed event. With a pool of 10 ESUs for the 2024-2025 academic year, Faculty Development endeavors are ready to move beyond the current faculty development team model. Full-time faculty may apply for 0.5 to 2 ESUs for the 2024-2025 academic year. All projects must be completed by the end of Spring Semester 2025.

Interested faculty should submit a proposal to provide a rationale and overview of their project and amount of ESUs requested.

Proposals will be reviewed using this rubric on a monthly basis starting in September 2024 until the ESUs are exhausted or until February 28, 2025.

The following information is required for the proposal:

  • Faculty member name
  • Academic year
  • Academic discipline
  • Home campus
  • Dean/supervisor name
  • Project title
  • Project start date
  • Project end date
  • ESU amount requested for fall semester
  • ESU amount requested for spring semester
  • Have you ever submitted a similar proposal? If yes, enter date.
  • Have all evaluation forms from previously funded projects been submitted to the Faculty Development office? Review of the project proposal is contingent upon submission of evaluation forms for previous projects.
  • Are you receiving reassigned time or extra-pay ESU’s for this project from another source? If yes, list additional funding sources.
  • Are you applying for reassigned time or extra-pay ESU’s for this project from another source? If yes, list additional funding sources.
  • Is this a joint project? If yes, list faculty names and disciplines.
  • Describe your overall project and its relevance to faculty professional development. How will this professional development impact student engagement, student learning and/or completion?
  • List specific work objectives, faculty assigned to each objective (if a joint project), and clock hours for each objective in space provided below. (Note: 1 ESU = 45 clock hours)
  • List the expected outcomes along with the evaluation measure(s) for each outcome.
  • Expected completion date.
  • Provide any additional information or project clarification, including the number of faculty you expect to benefit from this professional development opportunity.

Example of clock hours with work objectives:

Faculty Learning Community (FLC) Facilitation
FLC Facilitation Training (2 hours)
FLC Planning

  • Application development (2 hours)
  • Advertising (2 hours)
  • Application review (2 hours)
  • Emailing/basic correspondence (2 hours)

Facilitation of Monthly Meetings (~10)

  • Meeting prep (1.5 hours x 10 = 15 hours)
  • Meeting time (1.5 hours x 10 = 15 hours)

End of Semester Report Out Event

  • Planning and implementing (5 hours)

Total Estimated Hours: 45 hours = 1 ESU
