Transfer of Credit to Tri-C

We're pleased that you have decided to transfer to Tri-C. To make sure that credits from another institution transfer to Tri-C in the most time effective manner please follow these steps:

  1. Apply for admissions to Tri-C. Your transcript will not be evaluated until you have an admission application on file.
  2. Request an official* Copy of your transcript be sent to Tri-C. Original official transcripts must be printed within the last year and be sent directly from a high school or previous college to the address below. More information on High School Transcripts.
  3. Transfer credit evaluations typically take 7 business days after being received in the Office of the Registrar.  After the evaluation is complete, an email is sent to the student's Tri-C email account informing them of the transfer credit awarded.
  4. Only undergraduate credits and hours are transferable not grades or grade point averages. Graduate level coursework cannot be transferred.
  5. It is recommended students meet with a counselor to determine the best use of the transfer credits awarded.

Reverse Transfer Information

*An official transcript must be printed within the last year and sent directly from the institution in a sealed envelope and is designated "official" in writing or by virtue of transcript format. Official transcripts can be hand delivered to any Enrollment Center office as long as the transcript is in a sealed envelope. Faxed transcripts are not accepted.

Tri-C Transfer Equivalency Self-Service Tool

Students who are considering transferring to Cuyahoga Community College can use the Tri-C Transfer Equivalency Self-Service Tool to see how their transfer classes would articulate to Tri-C.

The Tri-C Transfer Equivalency Self-Service Tool follows a simple step-by-step approach to perform a transfer articulation report. The articulation reports display how the student’s classes may transfer to Tri-C.

The following steps will help you complete your evaluation:

1.      Select an intended degree, major, and entering academic year

2.      Select the school you previously attended

3.      Select the classes taken at the previous school attended

  • You may enter multiple schools and courses

4.      Enter the grade, credit hours and semester/term for each class

5.      Process to see the articulation.

Once you are on the Transfer Equivalency Self-Service Tool introductory page, you can click on the Help button at the top of the page to get more information, including navigation tips.

Please Note: The Transfer Equivalency Self-Service system uses Adobe Flash and some web browsers such as Firefox will require you to allow it to run. This system is currently unable to run on mobile devices.

Disclaimer: This transfer equivalency information is for reference only; it is not official or final. Course equivalents are subject to change upon official evaluation by the Registrar's Office. Course content may change from year to year, and equivalence may be withdrawn or changed. These equivalents are based on courses, which have been previously assessed for transfer to Cuyahoga Community College.

International Students

Students who have completed college level work outside the United States must have their transcript evaluated by the transcript evaluation agency listed below.  A request must be made for a Catalog Match Report for courses to be eligible for review by Tri-C.  The cost of the evaluation is the responsibility of the student. The evaluation should be sent directly to the Office of the Registrar at Cuyahoga Community College.

Repeated Course Policy of Transfer Credit

Repeating Courses Transferred to Tri-C

  • If a student completes a course at Tri-C that was previously accepted as transfer credit and earns the same grade or higher for the Tri-C course, the transfer course grade and hours will be removed from the academic record, excluded from the GPA, and will not count toward any degree requirements, so that duplicate credit is not granted.
  • If a student completes a course at Tri-C previously accepted transfer credit and earns a grade lower than the Tri-C course, the Tri-C grade and hours will remain on the academic record for computing the GPA. The grade for the transfer course will remain on the record; however, the hours will be removed so that duplicate credit is not granted.

Repeating Tri-C Courses at Another Institution

  • If a student earns an “F” grade for a Tri-C course, repeats the course at another institution, and the course is accepted as transfer credit by Tri-C, the initial course remains on the academic record with the grade; and both the grade and hours for the transfer course are recorded.
  • If a student repeats a Tri-C course at another institution, earns a higher grade for the transfer course, and the course is accepted as transfer credit by Tri-C, the initial course grade and hours will remain on the academic record for computing the GPA. The grade for the transfer course will be entered on the academic record; however, the hours will be removed so duplicate credit is not granted.
  • If a student repeats a Tri-C course at another institution, and earns the same grade or lower, the transfer course will not be accepted or will be removed from the academic record if accepted

All students wishing to repeat a course should consult with the Office of Financial Aid to determine what, if any, financial aid implications there are for repeating a specific course.

Transfer Credit Appeal Process

Cuyahoga Community College has a multi-level appeal process to address a student’s concerns when a student disagrees with the applicability of transfer credit by the College. Students seeking to appeal a transfer credit decision should meet with a counselor to complete the Transfer Credit Evaluation Appeal Form and understand the appeals process and procedures involved.

The acceptance of credit is carefully delineated in the Ohio Articulation and Transfer Policy (policy) and should be uniformly practiced by all institutions.  The acceptance of credit is specified in the policy as subject to appeal to the campus level. Students have 90 business days* to file an appeal on an institution’s decision on course applicability at the campus level. The 90 business day period begins on the date the Transfer Credit Evaluation is e-mailed to the student's Tri-C address. If you believe your credit was not properly applied, click here to review the complete Transfer Credit Appeal Process.
