From Orientation to Graduation: The Presentation I Wish I Had BEFORE I Went to College!: This presentation takes a hard look at what no one tells you about college. First-generation college students often arrive on college campuses full of hope and optimism until they realize that they do not speak the language. It's like landing on Mars and trying to communicate with the Martians. Many become discouraged and struggle mightily or drop out altogether. The goal of this presentation is to prepare students for the impending obstacles and arm them with the knowledge required to navigate that first year successfully and the courage to continue through to graduation.

The Value of a Humanities Education: In modern education, so much emphasis is placed on the importance of STEM fields that humanities-related disciplines are minimized in the process. Yet, much of Western civilization was built upon the foundation that learning the humanities was vital to our existence. This presentation presents valid reasons for both exploring and deepening one's appreciation for a humanities-based education.
Speaker: Jason Moore

The Value of the Humanities: In this talk, Dr. Luke Schlueter addresses the critical importance of the humanities in helping us to achieve a just, compassionate, and dynamic society and the various pressures on humanities programs at the college level. Dr. Schlueter also speaks to the role the humanities can have in helping individuals develop a broader understanding of life, culture and society and how the humanities can prepare today's students for a broad array of careers.
