Moneeke Davis

Moneeke DavisMoneeke Davis is a sophomore at Cuyahoga Community College pursuing an associate degree in nursing and is the newly appointed president of the Tri-C Student Nurses Association. She is also a member of Circle K International, Black American Council, National Student Nurse Association and a Mandel Scholar. Moneeke received the 2015 Community Spirit award from the Detroit Shoreway Community Development Organization for her work in the neighborhood. Moneeke sits on the Steering Committee for Our Alleys Revitalized (OAR) and runs a youth community garden, Mustard Seed Garden, on Elton Avenue.

Moneeke Davis is a woman of strength, love, happiness, discipline, chaos, and indifference. As the daughter of a drug addicted mother, Moneeke’s life began on a rollercoaster and continued as such in her journey to overcome many obstacles.

Born in Washington, D.C., she and her brother were sent to live with their grandmother in Cleveland, Ohio at an early age. After a chaotic and tumultuous upbringing, Moneeke became a teenage mother, obtained her GED, and was married at the age of 16. After divorcing her husband at age 21, Moneeke became a single mother and was forced to move her family from one low income housing unit to another. Moneeke also struggled with the serious health issues of her oldest son, David.

As time went on, life began to stabilize, David’s health improved drastically, and the family moved into their dream home. The future was looking bright for the family. However, a spurt of gang violence forced Moneeke to break up the family, consequently losing everything. But Moneeke never gave up.

During the two-year rehabilitation of their new Habitat for Humanity home, Moneeke attended and graduated from the Practical Nursing program at Brown Mackie College, was able to start work again, and married Franklin Hall Jr. in June of 2011.

Today, Moneeke is the proud, loving mother of five: Davita, David, Diamond, Darius, and Destiny. Although Moneeke experienced challenging times throughout her life, she is a shining example of perseverance and determination to her children, all of whom have experienced great success of their own. Moneeke’s mission is to use her gifts, knowledge, and abilities to bring people together to change the nation one community at a time.
