Kyle Nagy
Deagan’s Kitchen & Bar Sous Chef Kyle Nagy chose to begin his education at Cuyahoga Community College because of the flexible class options and affordability. “Working full time as a student can be very difficult sometimes,” he said, “so having that flexibility to attend classes around my work schedule was vital in continuing my education." Once he started taking culinary classes, Nagy met Assistant Professors Chef Ky-Wai Wong and Chef Michelle Gaw and said both had a huge impact on his college career. “Their eagerness to teach and share their knowledge made me as a student want to learn and absorb every bit of knowledge that I could.”
After graduating from Tri-C in 2012 with an Associate of Applied Business Degree in Business Management with a focus in Culinary Arts, Nagy had an internship at a restaurant in Chicago before returning to Cleveland. By the age of 24 he was hired as the executive chef at Deagan’s where he enjoys the creativity involved in cooking. “The fun part is experimenting with food and flavors and creating something that our customers can be satisfied with,” he said. “I've always said that cooking a meal for someone is one of the most personal experiences. Not only are you giving them something delicious, but you are also giving them nourishment and life from your food.”
Nagy credits his experience at Tri-C with helping him prepare for a career in a challenging industry and encourages future students to be patient and persevere. “Don’t give up on your hopes and dreams,” he stressed. “Nothing is impossible if you put your mind to it. With the help of Tri-C I pursued my dreams and have successfully achieved many goals. Tri-C will give you the life skills to make it all possible.”
