Top 10 Things Students Should – But Usually Don't – Do Before Classes Start

To 10 things to do before classes startAs the start of classes approaches, you have a lot to keep track of. Something is probably going to be overlooked. But Natalie Wilkins and Rebecca Unkfer, both admissions navigators at Western Campus, have some tips for all Tri-C students. Here are the top 10 things they say students should – but often don’t – do before classes start.

  1. Make sure financial aid or other payment options are set up and confirmed.
  2. Do not ignore notifications from the school! They are important. Get in the habit of checking your Tri-C student email.
  3. Check your schedule. Don't show up two weeks early wondering where the class is when it hasn't started. Pay attention to the start date of your classes.
  4. Visit campus and walk your class schedule so you know exactly where your in-person classes will be held.
  5. After registering for classes, don’t forget to stop at Admissions and Enrollment Services to get your Stomp Card.
  6. Log into your virtual class the week it starts so you are not dropped from it.
  7. Make sure you have bought or picked out all the supplies you need. And check out the Tri-C Bookstore for the stuff you want, like Stomp apparel, so you’re dressing your best this semester!
  8. Set aside study time and make sure your family is aware that you may not be available because of classes or studying. If needed, set up childcare.
  9. Contact Student Accessibility Services to get your accommodations for the semester if you have them.
  10. Familiarize yourself with student resources. Pick up a free bus pass at Admissions and Enrollment Services if you need one. Food pantries are offered on all campuses. Check out our laptop program if you need one. Use the Tutoring Services or writing commons from the start of your classes.
