Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) offers an Associate of Applied Business degree in Visual Communication and Design with a concentration in Photography.
Tri-C’s Photography curriculum integrates the latest digital photography applications and technologies with practices of photography and principles of visual communication and design. Students receive a solid technical foundation in digital camera operation, photographic exposure, digital image management, technical assessment of photographs, processing photographs for professional output, digital image manipulation and retouching, the utilization of both available and artificial lighting, and the utilization of commercial studio equipment. Throughout the program, technical skills are developed through an exploration of the fundamental concepts of form, design, communication, aesthetics and creative problem-solving. The topics include fine art photography, documentary photography, portraiture, advertising photography, editorial photography and professional photographic manipulation and retouching.
Tri-C’s Photography faculty is made up of working professionals with diverse educational backgrounds and work experiences. Through hands-on instruction, project-based learning and using industry-standard workflows and technologies in class, Photography students develop the knowledge and skills necessary for a successful career as a professional photographer. Students graduate from the Photography program with a strong, interdisciplinary professional portfolio showcasing their photographic interests and skill sets for potential employers and clients.
