Westshore Campus Leader Honored as Bright Star by NOACC
Nikki Matala recognized for volunteerism and community impact
WESTLAKE — Nikki Matala, the community relations liaison for the Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) Westshore Campus, was recognized at the 17th Northern Ohio Area Chambers of Commerce Bright Star Awards presentation for her community volunteerism and impact.
Chambers of commerce across northern Ohio recognized volunteers from their organizations as their Bright Star, each of whom has "made a significant impact on the chamber through membership, retention, sponsorship, economic development, operations and/or education." Each Bright Star is an active chamber member and likely to be an unsung hero or a dedicated behind-the-scenes volunteer. The ceremony took place in October.
Matala joined Tri-C in 2022. She was previously the executive director of the Willoughby Area Chamber of Commerce for more than 12 years. She has also served on numerous boards, including the Brain Injury Association and the Lake Humane Society.
She has volunteered with the Hospice of the Western Reserve, serving at the bedside of hospice patients; the Cleveland Clinic's Hillcrest Hospital, assisting patients and staff with basic needs; and the Boulevard of 500 Flags, helping with fundraising and grant writing.
She was nominated by the Rocky River Chamber of Commerce.
Recipients were spotlighted in the November issue of Cleveland Magazine.
