Tri-C Names Marty McGann as Executive in Residence To Drive Civic Collaboration
McGann, founder and principal for McGann Partners, will support the Workforce Innovation division
CLEVELAND — Marty McGann, J.D., a prominent leader in public policy and government relations, will serve Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) as an executive in residence starting in January. McGann will work closely with the Center for the Future of Work to amplify community impact by bringing education, industry and the community together to create shared prosperity across Northeast Ohio.
The Center for the Future of Work at Tri-C prepares students, educators, the community and employer partners for dynamic and ever-evolving workforce and workplace demands.
McGann has a long history of building partnerships and strengthening collaborations across sectors to advance strategies and secure investment. His effort will focus on helping the Center identify and build partnerships to address the Social Determinants of Work, which are the supports that help shape a person’s ability to find, keep and thrive in a job. Examples include job flexibility, healthcare, childcare, transportation, sustained education, home and community health, broadband access and access to justice.
McGann brings deep experience across numerous industries, including aerospace, workforce and education, health care, energy and utilities, transportation, manufacturing and telecommunications.
"I have long admired the vision and impact of Tri-C in our community and am grateful for the opportunity to play a role in supporting the College’s work at such an important moment for Cleveland’s workforce," McGann said. "Tri-C plays a unique and essential role in expanding the potential of residents and helping employers meet their talent needs. I look forward to working alongside College leadership and community partners as we strengthen connections, and align programs and services that drive economic growth."
In the last year, McGann founded McGann Partners, a government relations and strategic advisory firm where he serves as principal. Prior to launching his own firm McGann served as executive vice president of advocacy and strategy and general counsel at the Greater Cleveland Partnership, the nation's largest regional chamber of commerce. During his time with GCP, McGann helped convene complex multistate coalitions, supported business-led civic initiatives, and advised CEOs, elected officials and community leaders on the region’s most pressing government issues.
"We are thrilled that Marty McGann will be an extension of our team at Tri-C. His leadership and vision will elevate our efforts to advance community collaboration and drive economic mobility across Northeast Ohio," said Tri-C President Michael A. Baston, J.D., Ed.D. "Together, we will create stronger partnerships and open new doors of opportunity for individuals and businesses alike."
McGann's work with Tri-C will include:
- Convening internal leaders from Tri-C's key divisions, including Workforce Innovation, Corporate College®, High Tech Academy and others
- Leading the discovery process to assess Tri-C's institutional readiness, programmatic assets and potential points of engagement with local officials
- Engaging with civic offices and stakeholders to explore how Tri-C can align its services with businesses and industries
- Facilitating external relationships with developers, trade groups, chambers and community partners
