Tri-C Dedicates Fourth Chair of Honor to Remember Missing POW/MIA Military Members
Empty chair at Metro Campus signifies continued Collegewide support for veteran service members
CLEVELAND — A lasting symbol of American prisoners of war and service members who are missing in action is now displayed inside the Alex B. Johnson Campus Center at the Metropolitan Campus of Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®).
Tri-C's fourth "Chair of Honor" will ensure that U.S. servicemen and women who have not returned home will never be forgotten.
The College's POW/MIA Chair of Honor Dedication took place on Sept. 17, which was National POW/MIA Recognition Day. As with the first three chairs, Tri-C partnered with Rolling Thunder Ohio Chapter 1 to place the Chair of Honor on the Metro Campus.
"I hope this will cause us to pause whenever we see it to remember and reflect and to ensure that we keep the promise that they are not forgotten," said Denise McCory, Ed.D., president of the Metro Campus.
The Chair of Honor supports Rolling Thunder's mission to provide education and awareness of POW/MIA members and the loss and pain suffered by their families. The chair, intended to remain perpetually empty, is a reminder that there is still a space for the more than 83,000 U.S. military men and women who have been unaccounted for since World War I.
The College's first Chair of Honor was installed at the Eastern Campus in 2024, followed by installations at the Western Campus (2025) and Westshore Campus (2026).
Tri-C's support of U.S. military members dates back to its founding in 1963. Since then, the College has enrolled and supported more than 40,000 service members, with many graduating and starting successful civilian careers. Tri-C has earned 17 consecutive Military Friendly® School designations in recognition of its commitment to veterans and active military students.
Additionally, each year on Veteran's Day, Tri-C events welcome and recognize U.S. military veterans from across the College and surrounding communities. This year, there are multiple events taking place from Nov. 9 to 11.
