Strengthening Ohio’s Talent Pipeline
Tri-C celebrates In-Demand Jobs Week by spotlighting training programs and career advancement
CLEVELAND — Jarrison Moore has gone beyond the traditional pathways of his union apprenticeship program. Moore, a member of the Cement Masons Local 404, enrolled at Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) in 2023 to complete a certification for cement masonry.
Moore competed at World of Concrete in Las Vegas in January — the largest annual concrete exposition in the country — and earned first place in the International Association Apprenticeship Competition.
“As a cement mason, trying to be in the top 1% is all about the smallest details or your craft and perfecting it down to fractions of a fraction of an inch,” Moore said.
Building on this achievement, he continued his education at Tri-C to pursue an associate degree. Moore’s success reflects how Tri-C's collaboration with skilled trades organizations creates pathways for apprentices to expand their training, earn college credentials and advance in their careers.
“I am always eager to learn in near any capacity,” Moore said. “It is what fuels my motivation to continue my education and pursue a degree. I love learning new things and challenging my thoughts or prior notions.”
Construction trades are among the state’s in-demand jobs that the College will highlight during "In-Demand Jobs Week” to empower job seekers to acquire the skills necessary to thrive in Ohio's high-demand industries.
Tri-C's Workforce Training programs include a variety of courses and certifications under five Workforce Training Academies, plus additional workforce programs in computer science and IT fast track training.
Tri-C will highlight other in-demand jobs in addition to construction trades:
- Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering
- Computer Science and Fast-Track IT
- Emerging Industries and Occupations
- Health Care
- Public Safety
- Transportation and Logistics
"These events underscore our commitment to providing accessible, high-quality training that prepares individuals for success in today's workforce and provides a pipeline of talent that strengthens our community and economy," said Shana Marbury, J.D., the executive vice president of Tri-C's Workforce Innovation division.
While some of the events are for high school students, the Workforce Training Program Showcase Event is free and open to the public on Wednesday, May 7, from 4 – 7 p.m. at the Manufacturing Technology Center (2415 Woodland Ave., Cleveland).
Attendees can experience a comprehensive overview of Tri-C's training programs, participate in hands-on activities, tour the Manufacturing Technology Center, and access resources for registration, financial aid and career services.
