James W. Day Trust Donation To Expand Senior Learning Opportunities at Tri-C's Western Campus
A $25,000 gift will cover costs for 250 learners in Encore 55+ programs
PARMA — Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) announced a generous $25,000 gift from the James W. Day Sr. Trust to support its Encore 55+ program. This contribution will fund enrollment costs for up to 250 adult learners during the Winter 2026 session at Tri-C's Western Campus, providing them with engaging and enriching educational experiences.
James W. Day Sr. was a dedicated public servant and business leader, serving as a Parma City Council member for 10 years and as mayor for more than five years before joining Higbee's in 1967 as vice president of real estate and public affairs.
Three generations of the family have attended Tri-C, including Day's son and granddaughter, who took classes at the Western Campus, benefiting personally and professionally from the College's education programs.
"We are deeply grateful for this generous gift, which opens doors for hundreds of adults to continue learning and growing," said Rebecca Rahschulte, Ph.D., president of the Western Campus. "Lifelong education empowers individuals to stay engaged, discover new passions and strengthen their connection to the community."
Encore 55+ is offered through Corporate College®, a division of Tri-C, and has been a cornerstone of adult learning since its founding in 1974 by Iris Whittington Gold. The program provides engaging noncredit courses designed for learners 55 and older, with topics ranging from history and technology to wellness and the arts.
Nearly 15,000 seniors have enrolled since 1996. Today, Encore serves about 900 learners annually with more than 150 course offerings and community programs.
The Western Campus winter session takes place Jan. 23 – March 6. To sign up for classes at no cost, use the code SENC. Registration opens in December. The Western Campus is located at 11000 Pleasant Valley Road, Parma, 44130.
