Fall 2025 Commencement: Qwesi Ransom Perseveres at Tri-C

Qwesi Ransom's journey to Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C^®) is a story of a promise fulfilled.

Seventeen years ago, while running laps at the Metropolitan Campus track with his mother and sister, Ransom made a vow: one day, he would enroll and graduate from Tri-C. Ransom has turned that dream into reality. But earning his Associate of Arts degree in Psychology isn't just an academic milestone — it's a personal triumph.

"For my family and me, that's the Super Bowl, because of all the things I have overcome," Ransom said. "My first year here, I wasn't proud of myself, so I had to make changes — and I did."

Balancing two jobs and full-time coursework during his first semesters tested his resolve. But Ransom adapted, finding a work-study position with the Say Yes program that helped him grow as a leader and sharpen his communication skills.

Ransom graduated from the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences in the summer, and he'll be recognized when the College celebrates Commencement on Dec. 11 at the Wolstein Center.

His ultimate goal is to inspire and uplift the next generation, proving that determination and education can transform lives.

What made you choose Tri-C?
In 2008, I was running around the track at the Metro Campus late at night with my mom and my sister, and I told my mom and dad that I wanted to come to Tri-C. I always kept that dream in my mind.

Describe your Tri-C experience. Has a specific person, class or event played a role in your success?
It was challenging at first, because I was working two jobs and then worked full time for my first two semesters. I knew I had to make an adjustment to my schedule and find a job that fit me better, and I had to improve my time management. I found a work-study job with the Say Yes program as a student ambassador.

Being a student ambassador helped me grow as a leader, get to know different personalities and communicate with other people.

How has Tri-C changed your life?
I struggled with public speaking. Tri-C helped me become comfortable with public speaking and prepared me for moments when I need to use my voice.
