College Executive VP Highlighted as 'Notable Leader in Finance' by Crain’s Cleveland
David Kuntz helps Tri-C fuel educational excellence through financial stewardship
CLEVELAND — David Kuntz knows firsthand how Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) can transform lives. A Tri-C graduate, he returned to the College in 2016 as its executive vice president of Administration and Finance, now helping to create similar opportunities for current Tri-C students.
Kuntz was recognized as a 2025 Notable Leader in Finance by Crain's Cleveland Business for his achievements, including leading initiatives that generated $55 million in operational cost savings.
In his role, Kuntz oversees dozens of teams, hundreds of employees and a $300 million budget at the College. His efforts also support Tri-C's economic impact on Northeast Ohio, contributing $1.7 billion annually to the region's economy while supporting more than 21,000 local jobs.
Kuntz said he enjoys how the departments in his division — which include finance, information technology, human resources, safety and security, capital construction and others — play a part in supporting student success.
"While our work often happens behind the scenes, its impact is very real — from maintaining clean, safe and modern facilities to providing cutting-edge technology, hiring and retaining outstanding talent, and ensuring Tri-C stays affordable for our students and community," he said.
Kuntz also manages how the College balances rising costs to keep tuition accessible and affordable. Tri-C has the lowest tuition in Ohio.
"We're expanding online programs and continuing education to reach adult learners, partnering with local industries to create workforce pipelines, and pursuing more grant funding and philanthropic support," Kuntz said.
The College also continues to ensure it is spending its resources wisely.
"Operating efficiently has become increasingly important, so we've updated internal processes, modernized systems and continued looking for ways to share services," Kuntz said. "All of this helps us redirect more resources to our students' experience."
