Nuts and Bolts Academy
The Nuts and Bolts Academy provides opportunities for students at multiple grade levels to engage in fun, educational experiences.
These camps are offered in the summer as well as other times throughout the year. Camps expose students to manufacturing and engineering through innovative, hands-on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) activities.
Creation Station I
Ages: 11- 15
Interested in learning what you can do in a fab lab? Campers will explore Tri-C’s Ideation Station, a fully equipped fab lab with 3D printers, laser engravers and much more. Participants will create and design their own projects and learn how to use 3D modeling software to design and print their own creations.
Creation Station II
Interested in learning more about what you can do in a fab lab? This camp is for participant who have completed Creation Station I or already have some experience using a fab lab. Campers will use 2D and 3D software, Techno CNC router laser engravers and 3D printers to create and design their own projects.
Fashion Fab I
Fashion design and 3D printing in one camp! Campers will learn how to design and produce clothing and jewelry using 3D printing technology combined with traditional sewing techniques.
Rock The Fab Lab Cle
If you are creative and interested in music, then this is the camp for you. Rock the Fab Lab CLE is for campers at all levels interested in making their own guitar in Tri-C’s state-of-the-art fab lab. Campers will learn how to customize and mill a block of wood to build their own guitar to keep! No guitar skills or experience required.
Crazy Kitchen Chemist
Did you know that you can cook with chemicals? Learn about molecular gastronomy—the science of cooking. Campers will have the opportunity to cook a new dish each day using chemicals, syringes, pH meters and other tools usually found in a science lab. Also they will use molecular gastronomy techniques to make different dishes and desserts each day. Molecular gastronomy kit and apron included.
Project Pipeline Architecture Camp
Project Pipeline Architecture Camp is a national initiative established in 2006 by the National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA). This one-week camp is open to anyone interested in becoming an architect or learning how to design a building. Campers will learn about hip-hop architecture, eco architecture/sustainability, modern architecture, how to sketch by hand and use 2D/3D software. Once campers have brainstormed, presented and refined their design ideas, they will build a scale model of their design using technology and equipment in the fab lab. This camp includes lunch-and-learn sessions with professional architects and contractors.
Flying High with Drones
Build and program your very own drone! Campers will learn GPS mission planning as they construct and program their own personal quadcopter for flight. They will also gain experience piloting a drone on a fun and challenging indoor obstacle course. The finished product is theirs to keep.
Learn how to design and create unique art of all shapes and sizes using 3D printing technology. Campers will use 3D software to make their creations come to life and will be challenged to use their critical thinking skills to develop a functional piece of art.
