Program Sequence

All courses in the English as a Second Language program sequence (with the exception of ESL 1480, TOEFL Preparation) are a pathway to a course of study and lead to English 1010.  Prerequisites for English 1010: College Composition I are either the successful completion of all Level III courses (ESL 1310 Grammar for Communication III, ESL 1321: Reading and Writing III, and ESL 1331: Speaking and Listening III) or the successful completion of all accelerated courses (ESL 1510: Accelerated Grammar II, 1520: Accelerated Writing II, 1530: Accelerated Speaking and Listening II, and 1540: Accelerated Reading II). All other ESL courses beginning with the Basic level are prerequisites for subsequent levels of ESL which ultimately lead to English 1010.  The level at which a student begins ESL course work varies depending on the results of placement testing. Placement testing, which includes an oral interview, is required for all students.
