Ohio Options Short-Term Certificate Program

Ohio Options offers free short-term certificate programs that lead to industry-recognized credentials.

Requirements:

  • Complete an Ohio Options orientation
  • Qualify for the short-term certificate
  • Attend pre-class session prior to the start of of the coursework
  • Attend the entire course

Short-Term Certificates Offered:

State Tested Nurse Assistant (STNA)

In this 14-week course, students learn skills to perform basic patient care in long-term care facilities, hospitals, hospice centers, laboratories and home health centers. Includes clinical rotation and state certification exam.

Certification earned: Ohio State Tested Nurse Assistant

Paraprofessional (Teacher Assistant)

This 14-week course, complete with school internship, reviews the reading, writing, math and application skills necessary to become licensed to work as a paraprofessional in any Ohio school district.

Certification earned: State of Ohio Paraprofessional License

OSHA 10 and Forklift

This 6- to 12-week course provides training in safe operation practices. Forklift training includes powered industrial trucks and hands-on training in warehouse conditions.  Potential careers include entry-level supply chain, warehouse distribution, manufacturing and automotive.

Certification earned: OSHA 10 and Basic Forklift Operator 

Business Basic and Intro to Entrepreneurship

This 12-week course covers computer and internet fundamentals, including Microsoft Office, along with an intro to small business ownership. Potential careers include administrative assistant, data entry clerk, business owner and more.

Certification earned: Microsoft Word Certification

Hospitality

In this 10-week course, students learn skills and best practices for careers including food service, front desk, conciegre, lodging and transportation.

Certification earned:

  • ServSafe® Food Handler
  • START
  • Guest Service Gold®
  • ServSafe Alcohol

Pre-Vet Tech/ Elanco Animal Science

This 12–14-week module-based course assists individuals with acquiring the foundational knowledge and skills to pursue a career within the animal science industry. This is also a great starting point before beginning a vet-tech associates degree.  Careers could include working in vet offices, farms, kennels, with or as a breeder, in the feed markets, food inspection industry, ag sales, and many more.

Certification earned: Elanco Fundamentals of Animal Science

Southwest Airlines Professional Communications

This 12-week module-based course will prepare you for working as a professional and learning the skills necessary to thrive in any workplace environment. Having excellent communication skills in person, in writing, and with co-workers is of the most sought-after skills looked for in any workplace. This course has such great information that all Southwest Airlines employees take it as part of their hiring process. This certification will give you a head start on any job!
