Triceratops Head Baseball Coach Accepts Role With MLB's Miami Marlins Farm System
Kyle Stahlberg won 103 games in three seasons at Tri-C
CLEVELAND — Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) head baseball coach Kyle Stahlberg has been called up. Stahlberg accepted a job with the Miami Marlins to coach in their minor league system.
The club will announce its coaching assignments at the end of the season.
"Kyle embodies everything we stand for at Tri-C," said Anthony Franklin, executive director of Athletics, Wellness and Recreation at Tri-C. "His transition to the Marlins organization proves that dreams don't have expiration dates and that excellence is recognized at every level. Tri-C is truly where futures begin."
At Tri-C, Stahlberg helped build a baseball program that consistently competed at the highest levels of collegiate athletics, including a national-best 41-game winning streak last season on the way to a 44-8 record. The team was ranked as high as No. 22 in the NJCAA poll.
"I am grateful for my time at Tri-C," Stahlberg said on X. "Restarting and building the program was a true team effort, and I am very proud of what we accomplished together."
Immediate Impact on Tri-C
Stahlberg took over the baseball program in 2022, emerging from a three-year hiatus because of the pandemic. The Triceratops found their footing in the 2022-2023 season with a 28-12 record (.700 win percentage) and never looked back.
Stahlberg's tenure was marked by on-field and classroom accomplishments:
- Won back-to-back Ohio Community College Athletic Conference Championships (OCCAC) in 2024 and 2025, the eighth and ninth conference titles in program history
- Compiled a 103-37 record in three seasons at Tri-C (28-12 in 2023, 31-17 in 2024 and 44-8 in 2025)
- Named OCCAC Coach of the Year, 2024 and 2025
- 2023 OCCAC Player of the Year (Mason Koons) and Pitcher of the Year (Sloan Ulrich), three All-OCCAC first-team players and one second-team All-OCCAC player
- 2024 OCCAC Player of the Year (Kyle Koehler), two All-OCCAC first-team players and five second-team All-OCCAC players
- 2025 OCCAC Pitcher of the Year (Mitch Harder), seven All-OCCAC first-team players and one second-team All-OCCAC player
- 36 total OCCAC All-Academic Honorees (17 Spring 2025, 11 Spring 2024, eight Spring 2023), carrying a 3.3 or higher GPA with 12 completed credit hours during Spring 2025
- Nineteen players from the program moving on to Division I, II, III or NAIA programs
Stahlberg came to Tri-C after a successful six-year stint as head coach at Eastlake North, receiving recognition as the 2021 Lake County Coach of the Year.
His professional career began in 2009 with the Arizona Winter League, followed by the Traverse City Beach Bums. He was a member of the Canton Stallions' National Championship team in 2010 and 2011 and was a player/coach for the Berea Blue Sox 18+ baseball team, winning national championships in 2019 and 2021. He was inducted into the National Semi-Pro Baseball Hall of Fame in 2014.
"Tri-C will always hold a special place in my heart," Stahlberg said. "I will continue to cheer on the program and am excited to see how it grows and achieves even greater success in the years to come."
Assistant baseball coach Nick Kaplak will take over head coaching duties for the Triceratops.
