Faculty Guide to Tutoring Services

Tutoring Services partners with faculty to strengthen student learning, persistence and confidence.

Tutoring provides students with timely, personalized support that reinforces classroom instruction, helps clarify challenging concepts, and keeps small struggles from becoming roadblocks. Faculty can easily refer students to tutoring, collaborate with tutors on course-specific needs, or take advantage of embedded support options in high-impact courses. Through this shared approach, faculty and tutors work as a connected team to support students, improve engagement, and help them stay on track toward their academic goals.

Opportunities To Partner With Tutoring Services:

Invite a tutor into your classroom to introduce their services and explain how students can get started. These short visits help normalize seeking help and connect students to support early in the term. Faculty can request visits tailored to a specific course, assignment or point in the semester.

Satellite tutoring brings academic support directly to high-traffic or discipline-specific locations. By offering tutoring closer to where students already are, we reduce barriers and increase participation. This option works well for targeted courses, programs or peak academic periods.

Schedule a class visit to the Tutoring Center so students can see the space, meet tutors and learn how sessions work. These guided visits demystify tutoring and help students feel more comfortable returning on their own. Faculty can pair visits with assignments or early-term engagement activities.

Faculty may provide tutoring directly to students through the tutoring program, either during scheduled tutoring times or as part of their office hours. This option allows faculty to support students while earning service credits, when applicable. Faculty-led tutoring strengthens course alignment and gives students access to expert, discipline-specific support.

Faculty can reserve a tutor to support a specific class session, exam review or group activity. This option provides structured, course-aligned support when students need it most. Reservations can be customized by subject, format and instructional goals.

Tutoring services offer workshops focused on study skills, how to read a syllabus, note-taking, assignment review and generating ideas. Workshops can be scheduled for individual classes or opened to a broader student audience. Content can be adapted to align with course outcomes or common student challenges. Workshops are offered on demand. Interested in something else?  Let's build one together!

Embedded and aligned tutors are assigned to a course and work closely with faculty throughout the semester. They collaborate with instructors and provide consistent, course-specific support to students. This model strengthens alignment between instruction and tutoring while improving student engagement and success.
