"You can say music is what emotions sound like. And to me, jazz is the ultimate expression of emotion."
- Mark Mauldin
Mark Mauldin is a trombonist and an active and tenured music educator in the Cleveland metropolitan area, having taught in many districts throughout the region. He has also served as a clinician and guest artist for several high schools and directed the Tri-C Jazz Academy.
In every public school where Mauldin taught instrumental music, many of his students went on to become successful professional jazz musicians, including his son. Some even lead their own big bands.
Yet in all his years of teaching, Mauldin maintained his professional playing. His participation in the Tri-C JazzFest gave this master of the big band sound an opportunity to play with a galaxy of jazz stars.
Mauldin is a graduate of Howard University and holds a master’s degree in trombone performance and music theory and composition from Kent State University.
