Background Check Information (BCI)

All students enrolled in health career programs that require students to complete clinical experiences outside the College must complete a background check that includes finger printing and court search (BCI).

Cuyahoga Community College has secured the services of Corporate Screening to provide this service. The results of the screening will be sent directly to the Clinical Site Coordinator. Students with a citation will have their record reviewed on an individual basis and this information will be kept confidential. In some instances a citation may preclude a student from being accepted into a health career program.

  • The BCI must be completed no sooner than 16 weeks prior to the start of your program and no later than 8 weeks prior to the start of your program.
    • For students starting their program in the Fall semester the BCI must be completed between May 1 and July 15th before the student begins program courses in the fall.
    • Students starting their program courses in the Spring semester must have the BCI completed between September 25 and December 1 before the program begins.
  • Students who have not completed the background check before the first day of class will not be permitted to begin program classes.
  • Previous background checks or background checks completed by another vendor will not be accepted.
  • Students are responsible for the payment of these BCI services.
  • The BCI will be valid as long as the student is in the health career program.
  • Students returning to a health career program after a two year or more absence will need to complete another background check.
  • A student will not have to repeat the BCI if they change programs within two years of enrolling in the first program.

Please note: Health career programs do not provide copies of background checks to students or potential employers. If the clinical site requires a copy, the student will submit their password to the site or employer. The site/employer will log onto the site using the student’s password and review the background check. The student is then responsible for changing their password on the Corporate Screening web site, thereby preventing others from viewing their report.

Students may review the guidelines that are used to evaluate the background checks at the following links:
