2021 Carl and the Crooked River: The Making of an Environmental Mayor

Communications Studies students from Metro Campus researched and collaborated on a virtual presentation about Carl B. Stokes, who made history in 1967 as mayor of Cleveland and the first Black mayor of a major U.S. city. While the important racial aspect to his tenure made national headlines, it also overshadowed his many progressive environmental policies. The virtual presentation examined Stokes’ work as mayor within the larger context of environmental justice.
