Ali Benmerzouga
I’ve taught a wide range of math courses over the past 30 years, and I hold a Ph.D. in operations research from Case Western Reserve University. I strongly believe that people learn differently and that all questions are good questions. My objective has always been to treat students with respect and dignity while increasing their confidence in the subject matter. I’m waiting for you!
Andon Bushi
I’ve honed my knowledge of applied mathematics over 20 years as an engineer. I specialize in relating difficult math concepts to everyday activities to help students better comprehend them. I earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mathematics from universities in Albania and Italy, as well as an associate of applied business from Tri-C.
Gary Chizmar
After graduating from college, I taught high school math and coached football and wrestling. I left teaching to go into federal law enforcement and, subsequently, corporate security. Prior to joining Tri-C as a math tutor in 2013, I spent a decade tutoring math for various GED programs on a volunteer basis.
Troy Clark
I graduated from Case Western Reserve University, earning a Ph.D. in pure mathematics with a specialty in differential geometry. I’ve taught various college-level math courses, but I find tutoring to be the most rewarding since I get to work more closely with students. I enjoy finding new, inventive ways to explain math using technology, interactivity, humor and storytelling.
Jamie DuBois
I earned a Golden Apple Award upon completion of my student teaching internship in spring 2010. My interests include algebra, statistics and the application of calculus to solve business and financial problems. I enjoy helping students learn to use their TI-83 and TI-84 graphing calculators and other forms of technology, such as Excel and StatCrunch. I’ve been a tutor at Tri-C since 2013.
Vivian Evans
I was born and raised in the Philippines. I started at Tri-C as a Student Ambassador. I earned an Associate of Science and Associate of Arts degrees from Tri-C and graduated magna cum laude. I'm currently completing my master's degree in math and expect to graduate from Cleveland State University in December 2021. I speak English, Filipino, and Cebuano.
Karen Eversman
I joined Tri-C in October 2003 as a tutor at the Western Campus, transferring to Westshore when it opened in 2011. In the 1990s I taught algebra, applied geometry and trigonometry and worked as a private tutor. I think it's fun to share what I know about math. It encourages me to keep learning, too.
Stephen Hess
I’ve worked as a college-level math instructor and tutor since 2006. Prior to becoming a teacher, I worked for many years as a computer programmer/analyst, including a nine-year stint at the NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland.

I’ve been an adjunct faculty member and tutor at Tri-C for more than 20 years. I graduated from St. Joseph's College in 1972 with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics (minor in history). I was selected for inclusion in that year’s edition of Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.
Shannon Hobbs
I’ve been a math tutor at Tri-C for five years. I earned my degree in civil engineering, with a minor in mathematics. I left the industry once I had the first of my three sons, and I discovered that I love working in a hands-on learning environment. I enjoy running and staying busy. I earned two master’s degrees from Cleveland State University — one in economics (1990) and the other in mathematics (1997). I enjoy photography, chess and poker, as well as jazz, rock and early music.

I’ve taught math and statistics at Tri-C for more than 40 years, and I’ve been a tutor at the Westshore Campus since 2015. I hold bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mathematics, and I enjoy hiking and gardening in my free time. Tutoring can help you get past stumbling blocks and make progress in your coursework. Eunice Kollar
I’m a retired math teacher with more than 30 years of experience teaching junior high and high school students. I love helping students learn and understand mathematics. I also love animals, cooking, reading and dancing. Dreams are what get you started, and discipline is what keeps you going.
Carl Kozlosky
I began studying electronic telecommunications while stationed out west and completed my Master of Science in electrical engineering after returning to Cleveland. My professional career as a radio frequency engineer began when few cellphone towers existed. By the time I retired in 2008, 3G networks outnumbered 2G. I started tutoring in 1990, and I currently teach math at Tri-C’s Eastern and Metro campuses. Though I’m not an educator by profession, decades of experience have developed my patience and understanding.

Barbara Kubofcik
Tutoring students in math is my way of helping them reach academic success. Encouraging students to embrace learning is my goal, and I celebrate when they master difficult concepts. I attended The Ohio State University as a first-generation college student, earning a bachelor’s degree in computer and informational sciences. I worked as a computer consultant before switching to education. In 2011, I graduated from Tri-C and became a math tutor, specializing in developmental courses (0910, 0955 and 0965). When I’m not working, I enjoy volunteering and cooking.
Chuck Lawrence
I’m a semi-retired NASA aerospace engineer who works on spacecraft design and numerical simulations, astronaut safety, and aircraft engine structural analysis. I hold a bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees in civil and structural engineering from the University of Michigan and Case Western Reserve University. I thoroughly enjoy helping students succeed in their academic efforts.
Michael Lanstrum
I’ve been an Instructional Specialist (Mathematics) at the Western Campus since 2003. With over twenty-five years of experience in mathematics education, I have taught classes ranging from Developmental Mathematics to Calculus. In addition to numerous professional articles, I have co-authored three mathematics study guides (Pre-GED Mathematics, AP Statistics, and Algebra I) and have received two distinguished teaching awards from the Regional Campus System of Kent State University.

I’ve been an instructional specialist and adjunct faculty member at Tri-C for more than 20 years, teaching and tutoring all math courses. My experience, educational background in physics and math, and passion for helping students create a path to success for those who are dedicated to learning.
Monica Miller
I’ve been a math tutor at Tri-C since 1996. For much of that time, I was also an adjunct math instructor. My degrees are in mathematics and computer science. I enjoy interacting with students and helping them achieve their academic goals. During tutoring sessions, I strive to create a safe environment in which students feel comfortable asking questions as they master their math concepts.

Terry Provost
I joined the Tri-C family as an adjunct math instructor more than 20 years ago following a career as a research and development MRI physicist. I’ve taught a wide range of courses, from trigonometry to algebra to contemporary mathematics. I’ve also served as chief open lab coordinator for MathPlace at Tri-C’s Metro Campus for the past six years. My family and I live in Lakewood, where I host the “Bowled Over by Poetry” series at Mahall’s 20 Lanes.
Haim Raiz
I’ve been a math tutor at Tri-C since 2003. I can help students with all levels of math, from basic mathematics to calculus. I’m licensed to teach math in Ohio as well as in Russia. I hold a master’s degree in mathematics and a Ph.D. in computer science, and I’ve worked as a software developer and teacher in both Ukraine and the United States. I speak English, Ukrainian and Russian.
Magdy Sadik
I’ve been a tutor at Tri-C since 2000 and a math instructor since 2005. I previously taught high school math in Egypt as well as in Cleveland. I’ve taught many different levels of math, from basic mathematics all the way up to differential equations. I hold bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mathematics, and I speak both English and Arabic.
Donald Schmitz
Math always came easy for me. I earned a degree in mechanical engineering and started tutoring math as a volunteer for a GED program, progressing to the college level at Indiana University and, eventually, Tri-C. I especially like to explain how to "translate" word problems into math expressions and equations. I enjoy all sorts of puzzles, including crosswords, sudoku, jigsaw and Scrabble.
Sandra Silver
I’ve been a math and IT tutor at Tri-C for many years. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in systems analysis (minor in accounting) from Miami University. Prior to joining Tri-C, I worked as a computer programmer at the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland. I especially enjoy troubleshooting programming problems. I’m happy to help students with IT courses and all math courses except calculus.
Sampson Tedunjaiye
I started tutoring part time in 1984 while attending Tri-C. I can assist students with arithmetic, pre-algebra, algebra and statistics. My passion for helping students succeed encourages me to continue in the field. Besides tutoring at the College, I am a full-time employee of Catholic Charities Corporation. After graduating from Tri-C, I earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s degree in public administration from Cleveland State University.
Lillian Tran
I've been a part-time math tutor at Tri-C’s Metro Campus since 1999. I help students with basic college math, intermediate algebra and accounting. I work full time as a financial accountant, and I enjoy outdoor activities like biking and jogging. I hold bachelor’s and master’s degrees in math from Cleveland State University.

I believe that a good tutor can inspire hope and increase a student’s ability to learn. When I was a student, I spent most of my time with tutors. I love to create simple ways for students to learn. I’ve met so many interesting people from around the world and made a difference in their lives. That, in itself, is priceless.
