Tri-C Indoor Track Records Fall
Amber Ruiz-Bueno and Rashida Harris rewrite the record book
Amber Ruiz-Bueno and Rashida Harris turned in record-setting track and field performances while competing for Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) at the Findlay Classic & Elite Throws Competition.
Ruiz-Bueno lowered the school record in the 600-meter run by more than a half-second, winning the race with a time of 1:37.46. She also qualified in the event for the NJCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships.
In addition, the sophomore from Willowick qualified for nationals in the 1,000-meter run while competing at the meet, held Jan. 27-28 at the Malcolm Athletic Center at the University of Findlay.
Harris topped her own school record in the shot put with a heave of 48 feet, 2.5 inches to finish sixth in the elite division. Her previous best — a throw of 48 feet, 0.75 inches — came earlier in January when she qualified for nationals.
The sophomore from Euclid won All-American honors at the 2016 indoor championships after placing fifth in the nation.
Ruiz-Bueno is pursuing an Associate of Arts degree from Tri-C, studying early childhood education. Harris is working toward an Associate of Science degree with a focus in physical therapy.
