Awards Follow Victories for Tri-C Baseball and Softball
Matt Starcovic and Racquel Ward earn weekly honors from conference
The wins keep coming for the baseball and softball teams at Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®). So do the weekly player awards from the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference.
Tri-C’s Matt Starcovic earned Baseball Player of the Week honors for the second time this season while Racquel Ward claimed her fifth Softball Pitcher of the Week award. Both awards were for performances April 10-16.
The baseball team went 7-0 during the week while playing three different schools. The softball team swept a four-game series from Lorain County Community College by a combined score of 70-0.
Starcovic slugged two home runs, scored nine runs and added 12 RBI during the week, with 11 hits in 24 at-bats. The outfielder ranks among the team and conference leaders in most batting categories.
The sophomore from North Olmsted is working toward an Associate of Arts degree at Tri-C.
Ward struck out 14 batters while pitching six scoreless innings over two games, allowing only one hit. She raised her record to 12-3 on the season with a 1.24 ERA, which places her among the national leaders.
The sophomore from Ashland is in the pre-nursing program at the College.
The baseball team improved its record to 26-9 and the softball team to 21-7, with both sitting atop the conference standings at week’s end. Each team plays its home games at Tri-C’s Western Campus in Parma.
