A Run of Success: Tri-C Cross Country Team Qualifies for Nationals for 17th Straight Year
Caroline Lapish and Taylor Badamo earn all-regional honors to lead Challengers
The nationally ranked Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) women’s cross country team placed fourth at regionals while qualifying for the national championship race for the 17th consecutive year.
Caroline Lapish and Taylor Badamo led Tri-C while earning all-regional honors at the NJCAA Region XII Championship. Lapish finished seventh and Badamo 13th at the meet, held Saturday, Oct. 28, in Lansing, Michigan.
The regional meet featured a strong field with four teams among the Top 25 in the nation. Tri-C was ranked 23rd in the country in the most recent poll by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Head coach Don Cox said that the team’s average time qualified the Challengers for the National Junior College Athletic Association championship race, which will be held Nov. 11 in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
The team’s top five runners at regionals all list Northeast Ohio hometowns. Lapish is from Eastlake, Badamo from North Royalton, Sporcich from Ashtabula, Sauvinsky from Rootstown and Katie from Eastlake. All are sophomores.
