Tri-C’s Distinguished Alumni Award: Terry Calaway
Degree at Tri-C launched career in higher education
Terry Calaway spent decades as a higher education leader, serving as president of two institutions — Johnson County Community College in Kansas and Central Arizona College just south of Phoenix.
But before he reached the boardroom, he began his academic journey as a student at Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®).
Calaway graduated from Tri-C with an Associate of Arts degree in 1978. His studies at the College launched an impressive career that continues to make a difference for students across the nation.
Tri-C’s Office of Resource Development recently honored Calaway with its Distinguished Alumni Award in recognition of his work.
He and his wife, Marlene — also a Tri-C graduate — credit much of their success to the College and its faculty. They recently established a scholarship fund with the Cuyahoga Community College Foundation to help single parents achieve educational success.
Calaway currently teaches public policy and board/CEO relations courses for doctoral students within the Community College Leadership Program at Kansas State University.
