Tri-C Students Receive Scholarships Honoring Dr. King

Nineteen students recognized for academic excellence and community service

Image of Dr. Martin Luther King JrCuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) honored Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by awarding scholarships to 19 students during the College’s 42nd annual birthday observance of the civil rights leader.

The scholarships from the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Humanitarian Scholarship Fund recognize academic excellence and community service by Tri-C students who graduated from the Cleveland Metropolitan School District or other Cuyahoga County schools.

The 2019 scholarship recipients include:

  • Crisalida Chaiz of Cleveland, a graduate of James Ford Rhodes High School who is studying business management
  • Barbara DeJesus of Cleveland, a graduate of Max S. Hayes High School who is studying lodging and tourism
  • Tieara Doss of Parma, a graduate of James Ford Rhodes High School who is working toward an Associate of Science degree
  • Timberly Edwards of Cleveland, a graduate of Horizon Science Academy who is studying nursing
  • Martinique Future of Cleveland, a graduate of John Hay High School who is studying nursing
  • Melissa Henderson of Cleveland, a graduate of John Marshall High School who is working toward an Associate of Arts degree
  • Johniesha Jackson of Cleveland, a graduate of Martin Luther King Jr. Campus who is studying business management
  • JaQuwala Jones of Cleveland, a graduate of John Marshall High School who is studying corrections in the criminal justice program
  • Mylan Maines of Cleveland, a graduate of Lincoln-West High School who is studying recording arts and technology
  • Kimmona Miller of Cleveland, a graduate of East High School who is studying emergency medical technology
  • Ira Miller of Cleveland, a graduate of John Adams High School who is studying information technology and networking software
  • Bridget Ray of Cleveland, a graduate of John Hay High School who is working toward an Associate of Arts degree
  • Shirley Rytlewski of Maple Heights, a graduate of Lincoln-West High School who is studying business technology
  • Miranda Talton of Euclid, a graduate of East High School who is studying health information management technology
  • Michelle Toldy of Cleveland, a graduate of James Ford Rhodes High School who is studying fire and emergency medical service
  • Justice Tucker of Cleveland, a a graduate of James Ford Rhodes High School who is studying restaurant and food service management
  • Cierra Turner of Cleveland, a graduate of Cleveland School of the Arts who is working toward an Associate of Science degree
  • Shermaine Wagner of Cleveland, a graduate of Glenville High School who is studying criminal justice
  • Saydriyana Wilson of Cleveland, a graduate of Cleveland School of the Arts who is studying diagnostic medical sonography

The Cuyahoga Community College Foundation established the scholarship fund in 1991 with support from the Cleveland Teachers Union and other generous donors.
