Tri-C President Alex Johnson on Leadership During Pandemic
COVID-19 has put continuous improvement strategies to the test in many organizations
In a March Smart Business Cleveland column, Cuyahoga Community College President Alex Johnson wrote about the differences between change management systems and an integrated model of process improvement.
Johnson noted that an ongoing process improvement model, integrated into an organization’s operations, strategies and procedures, is often more effective at sustaining improvement and efficiency than change management systems.
In the two months since that column, the rapid change brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic has clearly illustrated the need for organizations to operate by a continuous improvement model.
Johnson examines the leadership impact of COVID-19 in his latest Smart Business Cleveland column, including Tri-C’s response and the high-level lessons organizations must learn as they continue to adapt to an ever-changing situation.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has brought rapid change that has been unprecedented in most of our lifetimes.” Johnson told Smart Business. “Times like these present continually moving targets, and no organization can respond perfectly. But thanks to a strongly developed culture of continuous improvement at Tri-C, my colleagues on the faculty and staff have risen to the challenge with commitment, skill and unwavering passion to see our students succeed.”
