Tri-C Plant Science Student Wins Scholarship
Sarah Castrigano aims for new career as a landscape designer

A student in Cuyahoga Community College’s Plant Science and Landscape Technology program has earned a scholarship from Total Landscape Care magazine.
Sarah Castrigano, a second-year student in the Eastern Campus program, told the magazine she was looking for an education option that was local, accessible and affordable. The Tri-C program met all of those criteria and has a stellar plant science program to boot. Tri-C routinely places in the top 10 at the National Collegiate Landscape Competition, often ranking ahead of much larger four-year schools.
Castrigano is working toward a new career as a landscape designer after having owned and operated a yoga and massage therapy business.
She told Total Landscape Care she became interested in an outdoor career after taking up beekeeping as a hobby.
“I have always made a hobby of plants, gardening and being outdoors, and over the years those interests had grown,” she told the magazine. “I wanted to go back to school, so I started to seriously consider a future in horticulture.
“The more I leaned into it, the more it became clear that this would be the next thing for me. It makes me really happy.”
