Tri-C Grad Fights Toward Olympic Dream
Olympic boxing hopeful Morelle McCane has added to a knockout resume that includes a business degree from Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®).
McCane won the 165-pound weight class in the Elite Division of the USA Boxing Western Elite Qualifier and Regional Open Championships, held last weekend in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The victory qualifies her for one of the eight spots in December's National Championships. Winners of the December event typically earn invitations to the Olympic Training Center to compete for Team USA.
The top two fighters in each weight class at the December tournament also earn entries into the Olympic Trials that will be held in 2019, according to cleveland.com.
McCane, 22, graduated from Tri-C last spring with an Associate of Applied Business degree. She said the College gave her the business muscle to open a mobile fitness company called MoFitt The Movement.
The company specializes in developing fun and creative routines to encourage exercise. McCane said MoFitt’s mission is to help clients build a healthy body and healthy mind while developing an active lifestyle.
The College featured McCane as a student success story prior to 2017 spring commencement.
“Tri-C opened my eyes to what is possible,” McCane said in the story. “I never thought I’d open my own business until I came here.”
