Tri-C Community Champion: Richard Summers
2019 graduate is developing conflict resolution programs for regional shelters

Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) recently honored Richard Summers with a Community Champion Award for his work with 4Ward With Purpose, a nonprofit organization that works with homeless and domestic violence shelters in Northeast Ohio.
Building on lessons learned at Tri-C, Summers is developing conflict resolution training workshops to hold in the shelters. His work builds on his extensive knowledge of social justice issues and passion for helping others.
“His commitment to his work and goals shows that he is thinking about the larger community,” adjunct instructor Priyanka Banerjie wrote about Summers in her award nomination. “He sees the bigger picture.”
Summers graduated from the College with honors in May with an Associate of Arts degree and a certificate in conflict resolution. His grades earned him membership in Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.
The Shaker Heights resident was also admitted into Tri-C’s Robert L. Lewis Academy of Scholars, a yearlong honors program focused on issues of social justice.
He will begin classes at Cleveland State University this fall.
The Community Champion Award was presented to Summers during the recent 2019 Appreciation Breakfast, held at Corporate College® East in Warrensville Heights. The program is sponsored by Tri-C’s Office of Government Relations and Community Outreach.
