Tri-C Basketball Teams Open 2018-2019 Season With High Expectations

Preseason conference polls pick men’s team to finish first and women’s team third

Basketball on hardwoodCoaches in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference expect the men’s basketball team at Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) to finish the 2018-2019 season exactly where they ended last year — atop the standings.

A preseason coaches poll named Tri-C as the team to beat in the OCCAC. Tri-C won the conference title outright last season after splitting the regular season championship in 2016-2017.

The women’s team at Tri-C was picked to finish third in the preseason poll behind last year’s co-champions — Sinclair Community College and Owens Community College.

The men’s team features nine freshmen with large shoes to fill. Tri-C graduated a core group of five players who led the team to a 60-5 record and the top of the national rankings over the past two seasons.

Returners include guards James Anderson and Josawah Bradford, who combined to average 20 points, eight rebounds and four assists per game last season.

The women’s team listed guard Tionne El-Amin as the top returner in reports filed with the preseason poll. Head coach Derrick Williams said the team would have “a new look” for the season.

The men’s team plays its home games at Metropolitan Campus in Cleveland, while the women’s team is based at Eastern Campus in Highland Hills. Both open the 2018-2019 season in November.
