Tri-C Baseball Players Catch Honors

Five Challengers named All-OCCAC as team ends season ranked 15th nationally

Tri-C baseball players who earned All-OCCAC honorsThe Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) baseball team placed five players on the 2018 All-Ohio Community College Athletic Conference Team following a season that ended in the national rankings.

The Challengers finished the season with a record of 41-11-1 and 15th in the season-ending NJCAA Division II poll. Tri-C placed second in the conference standings and third in the regional tournament.

The on-field success brought post-season honors for the following players:

Brock Begue: All-OCCAC First Team/All-OCCAC Freshman Team

The left-hander stood among the national leaders with an 11-1 record, 2.07 ERA and 94 strikeouts in 69.2 innings. The freshman from North Canton has not declared a major at the College.

Lucas Diluca: All-OCCAC First Team/All-OCCAC Freshman Team

The second baseman batted a team-leading .415 with 56 runs scored, 36 RBI and 20 stolen bases. The freshman from Windsor, Ontario, is in the College’s Sport and Exercise Studies program.

Jeremy Chambers: All-OCCAC Second Team

The outfielder batted .293 with 43 RBI and 35 runs scored. The sophomore from Marysville, Ohio, graduated from Tri-C with honors this spring after earning an Associate of Arts degree.

Brody McGrath: All-OCCAC Second Team

The third baseman batted .375 with four home runs, 38 RBI and 45 runs scored. The sophomore from Albany, Ohio, is working toward an Associate of Arts degree at the College.

Doug Smith: All-OCCAC Second Team

The right-hander posted a 9-3 record and 3.51 ERA in a comeback season from an arm injury in 2017. The sophomore from Galloway, Ohio, graduated from Tri-C this spring with an Associate of Arts degree.

Begue and Diluca also were named to the NJCAA Region XII First Team. Diluca also earned regional Gold Glove honors.
