Tri-C Announces ‘Triceratops’ as New Mascot

Students, staff and alumni vote for three-horned dinosaur to represent the College

Triceratops imageIn an announcement of prehistoric proportions, Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) today revealed that the Triceratops will serve as the new school mascot.

Students, staff and alumni chose Triceratops during an online September poll that attracted nearly 4,000 votes. The three-horned dinosaur claimed 28 percent of the vote to top five other mascot options.

With the name in place, a design firm specializing in sports branding will now work with the Tri-C community to create a mascot and logo for the College and its athletic teams. A design will be unveiled in December.

With “Tri-C” built into its name, Triceratops seems ideally suited to represent the College. The stout and imposing dinosaur serves as a formidable yet likeable creature that will be unique among school mascots.

Tri-C has competed as the Challengers for many years. (That name finished fourth in the online poll.) Voters also considered Blizzard, Coyotes, Jazz and Tridents.

The mascot options were created based on branding and design possibilities, local ties and fit.
