Season Preview: Tri-C Soccer Looks to Net Postseason Berth

Triceratops return top offensive and defensive players from last year’s team

Soccer ball and Triceratops logoExpectations for the upcoming season? Longtime Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) soccer coach Devan Anderson let the question marinate for a moment before offering a simple reply to put opponents on notice.

“All I can say,” he said, “is that we plan on making some noise.”

The Triceratops return much of the roster from last year’s freshman-filled team, which posted a 5-7-3 record. The lineup is loaded with electric playmakers and lockdown defenders eager to claim a postseason invitation.

On the offensive side, the team returns last season’s top scorer, Adrian Alexander, who found the back of the net 10 times. The Jamaican native and Cleveland Metropolitan School District graduate also added four assists.

He’ll be joined on the attack by Calvin Brown (Aurora), Armani Reid (Jamaica) and Timothy Wallace (Seven Hills), among others.

Lockdown defender Warren Simpson — another international student from Jamaica — helps protect the Tri-C goal. Simpson earned First Team All-Region XII honors following the 2018 season.

The lightning-quick Joshua Straw of Parma joins Simpson as an anchor on the back line.

Freshman Quincy Scott will handle goal-keeping duties following a stellar senior season at Bedford High School, where he allowed only one goal in 545 minutes while serving as the last line of defense.

The team opens the season Sept. 7 at Ashland University. Tri-C’s first home game at Western Campus in Parma takes place Sept. 9. For a full schedule, visit www.tri-c.edu/athletics.
