Expansion Project Provides Room to Grow Tri-C’s Manufacturing and Engineering Programs
June 5 groundbreaking ceremony marks start of project in Cleveland
An expansion of the Advanced Technology Training Center at Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) will create a hub designed to encourage innovation in manufacturing and engineering.
A groundbreaking ceremony for the project will take place at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 5. The new space will feature high-tech training labs that can be adapted to meet the region’s ever-changing workforce demands.
The $10 million expansion and renovation magnifies Tri-C’s commitment to promoting smart manufacturing methods essential to industry growth. The project is expected to be complete by July 2019.
“This project expands the region’s most advanced technical training facility to serve the growing needs of industry and career seekers,” Tri-C President Alex Johnson said. “The enhanced learning space will train skilled workers to keep Northeast Ohio businesses competitive and the regional economy strong.”
The expansion will add 12,000 square feet of space to the Advanced Technology Training Center (ATTC), located at the corner of Woodland Avenue and East 30th Street within the College’s Metropolitan Campus.
The project also includes renovations to 14,000 square feet of the ATTC. The reimagined space will allow for the full integration of the College’s manufacturing and engineering departments and increased alignment of workforce programs.
Voter approval of Tri-C’s bond issue request in November made the project possible. Approval of Issue 61 raised $227.5 million for the College to create new instructional space, keep pace with changing technology and address decades of wear and tear on buildings.
The ATTC expansion is one of several construction projects launching this year. The College recently held groundbreaking ceremonies for the new Western Campus STEM Center in Parma and the Westshore Campus Center in Westlake.
Work will also begin this year at the KeyBank Public Safety Training Center in Parma Heights and the Automotive Technology Center at Western Campus in Parma.
