Career Potential in Captioning and Court Reporting Highlighted at Tri-C Open House
April 25 event offers introduction to field with high-income jobs
Learn about career opportunities in the field of captioning and court reporting during an open house at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, at the Western Campus of Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®).
The event – sponsored by Tri-C’s Captioning and Court Reporting program – will introduce potential students to the profession. The open house will include hands-on exercises using stenography machines and voice-writing technology.
College faculty and industry professionals will be on hand to talk about the job outlook, the school’s program and a scholarship opportunity that includes a stenography machine and mentoring stipend.
Court reporters create word-for-word transcriptions at trials, depositions and other legal proceedings. Some court reporters provide captioning for television and real-time translation for deaf or hard-of-hearing people at public events and business meetings or in classrooms.
The median annual income for court reporters is more than $50,000, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. One in 10 court reporters earn in excess of $95,000 a year.
The open house will be in the upper cafeteria at Western Campus, 11000 Pleasant Valley Road in Parma. For more information, contact Kelly Moranz at kelly.moranz@tri-c.edu or 216-987-5214.
