Call for Musicians: Tri-C JazzFest Seeks Bands for Outdoor Stage Performances
Annual summer festival accepting applications through March 26
Tri-C JazzFest Cleveland, presented by KeyBank, has opened an online application for local and regional bands that want to play the festival’s outdoor Strassman Insurance Stage June 29-30 at Playhouse Square.
Applications will be accepted at https://forms.tri-c.edu/JazzFestCallsForBands/ through Monday, March 26. An online form accessible from the site asks for video links of performances and background information on bands.
A committee of music industry experts will review the submissions and select which acts ultimately take the outdoor stage between 3 p.m. and midnight on Friday and Saturday of festival weekend.
A variety of genres will be considered, including jazz, blues, R&B, funk, gospel, jam band and reggae. Last year, the committee considered nearly 100 applications for 18 performance slots.
“Not only is the committee choosing bands based on quality, they’re charged with presenting a balance of music genres,” said Terri Pontremoli, festival director. “In the end, it’s always great to see the reception the musicians get from the outdoor crowds.”
The 39th annual Tri-C JazzFest runs June 28-30. The festival includes eight ticketed concerts inside the historic theaters at Playhouse Square, plus the free outdoor shows.
Visit www.tri-cjazzfest.com for a schedule of ticketed shows. The 2018 lineup includes Common, Brian Simpson’s Smooth Jazz All Stars, Snarky Puppy, Joshua Redman, Terence Blanchard and others.
Festival passes — which offer VIP seating to all eight ticketed concerts, plus other perks — are now on sale. Cost is $250, a $150 savings compared to buying single tickets to all eight shows. Call 216-640-8800 to purchase.
Individual tickets will go on sale April 2 through the Playhouse Square Box Office at 216-241-6000 or at www.playhousesquare.org.
Tri-C JazzFest Cleveland is presented by KeyBank and made possible by Cuyahoga Community College, the National Endowment for the Arts, Ohio Arts Council, Strassman Insurance Services Inc. and a growing list of donors and members.
