Bringing Jazz to the Community
Free concerts April 10-11 highlight Tri-C’s DownBeat Jazz Education Days

The award-winning Brubeck Institute Jazz Quintet will perform two free concerts as part of the annual DownBeat Jazz Education Days by Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) and Tri-C JazzFest Cleveland.
The five-member group from the Brubeck Institute at University of the Pacific in California holds a reputation as one of the best collegiate jazz groups in the nation. Their resume lists some of the most famed music festivals and jazz clubs in the United States.
A rotating cast of top Northeast Ohio artists will join the quintet for guest appearances throughout the free shows, which will take place at 7 p.m. April 10 and 11.
Here are details on each concert:
Tuesday, April 10
Westlake City Schools Performing Arts Center, 27830 Hilliard Blvd. in Westlake
The Brubeck Institute Jazz Quintet will be joined by the Spirit of the Groove Big Band led by trumpeter Dominick Farinacci. Guest appearances by saxophonist Chris Coles, drummer Quincy Phillips and pianist Christian Tamburr. The Westlake High School Jazz Band will open the show.
Wednesday, April 11
Simon and Rose Mandel Theatre at Tri-C Eastern Campus, 4250 Richmond Road in Highland Hills

Seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis at each venue.
The concerts offer a glimpse at the musical talent visiting the College this year for the DownBeat Jazz Education Days, where young musicians mix with the artists over two days of interactive workshops and master classes.
More than 300 students from middle school through college will participate in the event, which includes jam sessions with the visiting musicians.
“April is Jazz Appreciation Month, and the DownBeat Jazz Education Days — with their emphasis on young people and community — are the perfect way to celebrate,” said Terri Pontremoli, director of Tri-C JazzFest.
The programming and performances support the educational mission of Tri-C JazzFest to present opportunities to learn from world-class artists.
