Award-Winning Week for Tri-C Ballplayers

Kaitlynn Boykin, Brock Begue and Chase Carney honored by conference

OCCAC Player of the WeekThe baseball and softball teams at Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) went three for four in capturing the most recent weekly player awards from the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference.

Tri-C’s Kaitlynn Boykin claimed softball Player of the Week recognition, while Brock Begue (Pitcher of the Week) and Chase Carney (Player of the Week) swept the baseball awards for performances April 2-8.

Here’s how they did it.

Boykin batted .778 (7-8) with a home run and seven RBI to help the Challengers sweep a softball doubleheader with conference rival Edison State. The catcher also scored three runs in the two games. The sophomore from Painesville is studying to be a physical therapy assistant.

On the baseball side, Begue took the mound twice for Tri-C and earned victories in both starts. He pitched nine innings over the two games, racking up 16 strikeouts and allowing just one earned run and six hits. The freshman from North Canton has not declared a major.

Carney hit .538 (7-13) with three triples and two doubles as the Challengers won six games during the week. He totaled seven RBI and scored six times while recording a hit in every game he played. The freshman from Cincinnati is working toward an Associate of Arts degree at Tri-C.

Tri-C’s softball team is now 14-4 on the season, while the baseball team is 19-7-1. Both teams play their homes games at Tri-C’s Western Campus in Parma.
