A Week of Nothing for Tri-C’s Santiago Ramirez
Left-hander tosses 10.2 scoreless innings to win two games and weekly OCCAC honor
A stingy week turned into an award-winning week for Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) pitcher Santiago Ramirez.
The left-hander earned the Pitcher of the Week Award from the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference after throwing 10.2 scoreless innings and notching two wins between April 16-22.
Ramirez began the week allowing just one hit over five innings in a 10-0 complete-game victory over Edison State Community College. He followed that gem with another 5.2 innings of zeros on the scoreboard to lead Tri-C to a 4-0 win over Eastern Gateway Community College.
He struck out 10 batters over the two starts while becoming the third Tri-C pitcher in three weeks to claim the weekly conference award.
Ramirez raised his record to 5-0 on the season and lowered his team-leading ERA to 2.00.
The freshman from Defiance is studying to be a physical therapist assistant.
The Challengers have won 10 in a row to raise their record to 29-8-1. The team is tied for first in the conference with Sinclair Community College. The Challengers also received votes in the latest NJCAA Division II national rankings. The team plays its home games at Tri-C’s Western Campus in Parma.
